Flavours of Pear - Valencay, Sebastian Vaillant, France.

This lesser-known Loire region 2022 wine is a Valencay specific blend. Sebastien Vaillant uses 80% Sauvignon blanc for freshness, and 20% Chardonnay to balance it with richness. There are aromas of citrus and tropical fruit. The taste comes through with pears and peaches, balanced with freshness, a bit of minerality and a lovely creaminess. This wine is rated amongst the top 3% in the world.

Flavours of Apple - Picpoul de Pinet, Domain La Croix Gratiot, France

Picpoul blanc grapes grow on slopes by the coastal lagoon in Languedoc. Winemaker Anais Ricome and her father Yves crafted this fresh and structured wine with lots of fruit aroma. It has a citrussy freshness, a hint of apple, along with stone fruit flavours and a nice bit of body. It has a long finish with a touch of mineral and salt. Rated by the Times as “one of the finest Picpouls…depth and nuance that a supermarket £12 bottle can’t match”.

Flavours of Citrus - `Sossego` Vinho Alentejano Branco, Herdade do Peso, Portugal

The Alentejo region is hot and dry, yet it makes excellent white wine from the Antão Vaz and other indigenous grapes. It is known for its acidity and tropical fruitiness, like a lightly oaked Chardonnay. Winemaker Luis Cabral de Almeida matches these grapes to specific soil types across his sustainable vineyards. Citrus and peach come through in the aromas and on the palate, a balance of tropical fruits and fresh acidity. Rated in the top 4% of wines in the world.

Flavours of Smoky Wood - Mendoza Chardonnay, Kaiken Wines, Argentina

A delicious complex Argentine wine. Chardonnays grown at altitude create amazing citrus and mineral characters, with those from lower slopes being fuller bodied, creamier and with lush stone fruit flavours. The hand-harvested grapes contribute to an oaked wine with lots of aromas to take in; pineapple, banana, coconut and vanilla. On tasting there are tropical fruits, hints of vanilla and coconut and a long oaky smoky finish. Leading wine critics are scoring this 2021 vintage between 91-93/100. Mbr/>Abv 13.5% Vegan

Flavours of Orange - Planalto Douro Branco, Casa Ferreirinha, Portugal

The grapes for this white blend comes from cooler high-altitude vineyard sites in the Douro Valley. This 2021 vintage is medium bodied. It has intense aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and notes of orange blossom. On the palate, the wine is crisp with a lively acidity balancing the concentrated fruit flavours with hints of orange lemon and melon followed by a clean, fresh finish. Rated as one of the world’s top 5% of wines.

Flavours of Almond - Viognier Côtes de Thau, Baron de Badassière, France

Languedoc produces many different types of wines and Viognier is a native. Winemaker Marguerite Vasseur personally choses the best hand-picked grapes to make this vibrant modern style Viognier. The 2022 vintage is flavourful and rounded with aromas of honey and almond. The wine has just enough acidity and it is balanced with a bit of weight and tropical fruit flavours. On the end there are hints of vanilla almond and spice. This wine is rated as one of the world’s top 7%.

Flavours of Chocolate - Beneventano Aglianico, Vesevo, Italy

The Vesevo vineyards benefit from the cool breeze blowing off the Bay of Naples and are fertilised by volcanic ash from Vesuvius. This 2021 bold Aglianico is made delicately to preserve the fruit character and matured in oak for 8 months. The resulting wine has intense aroma of black fruit, spice and vanilla. On the palate it is medium bodied with a touch of acidity, black fruits, soft tannins and notes of chocolate and oak. This wine is rated in the top 5% of the world’s wines.

Flavours of Clove - `The Blend` Walker Bay, Gabriëlskloof, South Africa

A 2019 vintage Bordeaux style blend by winemaker Nina Muller. The grapeswere hand-picked and vinified before being aged for 18 months in French oak barriques. It has aromas of black fruits and a bit of spice. To taste, it is fuller-bodied with black fruit and raspberry, balanced tannins, and depth coming from the oak. On the finish there is a bit of refreshing acidity and hints of clove,star anise, nutmeg and tobacco. This delicious wine is rated as one of the top 4% in the world.

Flavours of Spice - `Heritage Collection` Zinfandel, De Loach, USA

This bold 2020 Zinfandel is dark and robust with lots of layers. Head winemaker Brian Maloney makes careful use of different soil types to produce high quality small-lot wines. A small portion of the wine is seasoned in french oak barrels. This wine has strong aromas of ripe blackberry black cherry and sweet spices. On the palate, it is bold with a lovely oakiness, just enough tannin and a hint of sweetness. The finish has a refreshing acidity and a bit of spice. This Zinfandel is rated amongst the top 7% of wines in the world.

Flavours of Cherry - Rioja Reserva, Gran Dominio, Spain

Winemaker María Barúa’s eye for detail local knowledge shows in this Superb Rioja. Predominantly Tempranillo with a touch of Mazuelo, it is aged for 12 months in French and American oak and a further 24 months of bottle ageing before release. This wine aromas of ripe red and black fruit coupled with hints of smoke and vanilla. It is full and rich on the palate with red fruits, cherry and and hints of oak and spice. This wine has a 4.1 star rating from drinkers.

Flavours of Plum - `Lioness of McLaren Vale`Shiraz- Dandelion Vineyards, Australia

An award winning 2020 vintage of this bold but well-balanced Shiraz from Elena Brooks. Grapes are hand picked and matured in French oak for 18 months. There intense aromas of dark fruits and Plum with subtle notes of violets, pepper chocolate and rosemary, On the palate dry tannins and refreshing acidity support the black plum and dark fruits flavours. Secondary flavours of oak, chocolate and pepper come through followed by a long finish. This Shiraz rated in the top 3% of all the world’s wines.

Flavours of Vanilla - `Lama di Pietra` Nero di Troia, Cantina Diomede, Italy

This lovely rich but balanced wine from southern Italy is made from the Nero di Troia grape. The wine is matured for ten months in stainless steel tanks to preserve the rich fruits and aromas. The wine has aromas of mulberry and cherry. On the palate black fruits come through strongly along with vanilla and chocolate. Medium tannins give the wine structure and and a hint of acidity keeps things beautifully balanced. This superb wine is rated in the top 2% of wines in the world.
