Low levels of rainfall combined with a hot summer, led to an early and condensed harvest. Yields were below average. Fruit quality was tremendous with small berries full of concentrated flavour and bright natural acidity. After hand picking, the grapes were kept as whole bunches and fermented in open top fermenters. Fermentation lasted 12 days with daily hand-plunging. The wine was then pressed into predominantly older French oak barriques, to mature for a further 18 months before bottling without fining or filtration.

Elena Brooks’ mother worked in a winery in communist Bulgaria and by sixteen, Elena had made her first Chardonnay. Now settled in McLaren Vale with partner Zar Brooks, she is highly awarded and makes exceptional wines in a simple way from a suite of beautiful old vineyards from the Barossa down into McLaren Vale.

The boldness of this wine and its balance of tannin and acidity make it a great match for rich meat dishes; beef, lamb and game in particular.

South Australian Shiraz wines are renowned for their bold, robust character, featuring rich dark fruit flavours, spicy undertones, and well-integrated tannins.

McLaren Vale is one of South Australia’s oldest and largest wine regions with some vines over 100 years old. It offers a variety of reds and whites, reflecting its diverse climate and soils. McLaren Vale is renowned for Shiraz, but it's also a hotspot for premium Grenache, Cabernet, and Mediterranean varieties like Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo, and Sangiovese.
