This wine is made from Cabernet Franc, Tannat, Merlot, and Marselan grapes. The 2021 vintage saw the vines experience cold winter weather which allowed for even budding. A dry spring was followed by ideal summer conditions for the ripening resulting in healthy grapes with excellent colour. The end of the growing season saw persistent rainfall, which was challenging to manage, but carefully thought out harvesting resulted in a great selection of fruit, with optimal yields. The hand-harvested grape varieties were processed separately, with 5 days of maceration followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing on lees. This careful process results in a wine packed with vibrant flavours and aromas.
Winemakers Germán Bruzzone and Alberto Antonini prioritise minimal intervention; their use of concrete fermenters and large untoasted oak aims to preserve the purity and expressiveness of each grape variety, and the distinctive ballast soil and vineyards of Maldonado.
The freshness and balanced tannins of this Cabernet Franc blend complement savoury meats and hearty vegetable dishes wonderfully.
Cabernet Franc and Tannat offer aromatics and tannic structure respectively. This ideal blend is a better value alternative to Bordeaux. The grapes are native to France but well established in Uruguay.
Maldonado is on the Atlantic coast of Uruguay and despite its reputation as the new frontier of Uruguayan wine, it has been planted with vines since the 1890s. The climate is mild with cool breezes, moderating summer heat contributing to the wine's aromatic profile and acidity. The region's diverse geology, including old, rocky strata, provides free-draining, mineral-rich vineyards ideal for quality wine production.
